Use Canva's AI to Create Agency Marketing Materials

Tool:Canva
AI Feature:Magic Write + AI Design
Time:10-15 minutes
Difficulty:Beginner

What This Does

Canva's built-in AI tools generate professional marketing text and help design polished social posts, flyers, and email graphics for your agency — no design experience or expensive graphic designer needed.

Before You Start

  • You have a free Canva account at canva.com (free plan works for most tasks; Pro adds more templates)
  • You're logged in and on the Canva home page
  • You know what you want to create: a social post, a flyer, an email header, etc.

Steps

1. Choose a template

From the Canva home page, click Create a design (purple button, top right). Search for your format: "Instagram post," "Facebook post," "flyer," or "email header." Click a template that matches your style — you can customize everything.

What you should see: A full-screen design editor opens with the template loaded.

Troubleshooting: If you don't see a template you like, use the left sidebar filter to search within the category.

2. Use Magic Write for text

Click on any text element in the template. To generate new text with AI, click the Apps icon in the left sidebar → select Magic Write. Type a brief description of what you want to say.

Example: "Write a 3-line caption for an Instagram post about why renters insurance is worth $15 a month. Friendly, reassuring tone."

Click Generate. Magic Write produces several text options. Click the one you want to insert it into your design.

What you should see: Text appears in the design, ready to customize font/size.

3. Customize the design

Replace placeholder images with your own photos or choose from Canva's free stock library (search bar at top of left panel). Change colors to match your agency brand. Add your logo by clicking Uploads in the left sidebar and dragging it onto the design.

4. Download or share

Click Share (top right) → Download → choose PNG for social posts, PDF for print materials. For social posts, you can also click ShareSchedule to post directly from Canva to Facebook or Instagram.

Real Example

Scenario: You want to post a "3 things your homeowners insurance doesn't cover" graphic for Facebook this week.

What you type in Magic Write: "Write 3 surprising things a standard homeowners policy doesn't cover. Short bullets, plain language, slightly alarming to get people to think about their coverage."

What you get: Three sharp bullets like: "Flooding (you need a separate flood policy)", "Sewer backup (usually requires a rider)", "Business equipment used at home (often excluded)." Drop these into a bold, visual template and you have a shareable post in 10 minutes.

Tips

  • Search "insurance" in the template library for insurance-specific designs — Canva has several purpose-built options
  • Magic Write works best with specific prompts — "friendly 2-sentence caption about life insurance for young parents" beats "write something about life insurance"
  • For Facebook or LinkedIn, use Canva's Social Media section to schedule posts for free directly from Canva — no need for a separate scheduling tool
  • Keep branding consistent: save your agency colors and logo in the Brand Kit (free accounts get one brand kit)
